BAlancing Environmental Stewardship with economic Strength
Tourism, logging, and maple sugaring are treasured mainstays of the NH economy, but are endangered by out-of-state interests that want to place dirty industries and landfills in pristine NH locations. Guard our natural NH treasures! Buy local! Support local businesses that enrich, not exploit, our communities and environment.
By protecting the natural beauty of NH while also growing new low-impact, high-tech businesses, our towns can lead the way to a more prosperous and beautiful future. Better internet access, improved roads and bridges, and affordable housing for young families and elders will help our rural towns more fully participate in the 21st century economy.
During the 2019 session, Ken Wells wrote legislation (HB1414) to protect landowners, loggers and our valuable forests fairly.
As a member of the powerful House Science, Technology and Energy Committee, Ken Wells motivated broadband providers to engage with citizen groups and selectboards of Danbury and Salisbury to draft plans to improve connectivity in under-served areas. In 2019, only 9% of Danbury households had high-speed internet. Danbury now has high-speed fiber internet service to every address.
Wells is a co-author of HB735, best known as "Carbon Cash-back [link]". It is a comprehensive plan to harness market forces to reduce NH's reliance on out-of-state fossil fuel purchases, while stimulating job creation through NH-based clean energy projects. This ground-breaking "carbon cashback" bill has been looked to by other states and federal legislators as the model to emulate.
